Brief facts about vlti:

The Very Large Telescope is an astronomical facility operated since 1998 by the European Southern Observatory, located on Cerro Paranal in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. It consists of four individual telescopes, each equipped with a primary mirror that measures 8.2 meters in diameter. These optical telescopes, named Antu, Kueyen, Melipal, and Yepun, are generally used separately but can be combined to achieve a very high angular resolution. The VLT array is also complemented by four movable Auxiliary Telescopes with 1.8-meter apertures. The VLT is capable of observing both visible and infrared wavelengths. Each individual telescope can detect objects that are roughly four billion times fainter than what can be seen with the naked eye. When all the telescopes are combined, the facility can achieve an angular resolution of approximately 0.002 arcsecond. In single telescope mode, the angular resolution is about 0.05 arcseconds.

Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory - The Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory is an astronomical observatory located on the summit of Mt.Cerro Tololo in the Coquimbo Region of northern Chile, with additional facilities located on Mt. Cerro Pachón about 10 kilometres to the southeast.

Extremely large telescope - An extremely large telescope is an astronomical observatory featuring an optical telescope with an aperture for its primary mirror from 20 metres up to 100 metres across, when discussing reflecting telescopes of optical wavelengths including ultraviolet, visible, and near infrared wavelengths.

European Extremely Large Telescope - The Extremely Large Telescope is an astronomical observatory under construction. When completed, it will be the world's largest optical/near-infrared extremely large telescope.

Thirty Meter Telescope - The Thirty Meter Telescope is a planned extremely large telescope that has become controversial due to its location on Mauna Kea, on the island of Hawaiʻi. The TMT would become the largest visible-light telescope on Mauna Kea. Scientists have been considering ELTs since the mid 1980s.

Giant Magellan Telescope - The Giant Magellan Telescope is a 25.4-meter, ground-based, extremely large telescope under construction at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile's Atacama Desert. Commissioning is anticipated in the early 2030s.

La Silla Observatory - La Silla Observatory is an astronomical observatory in Chile with three telescopes built and operated by the European Southern Observatory.
